From paper manufacture and printing, to logistics and dispatch, it is important that the production processes for our reports are sustainable.
The integrated ‘BASF Report 2008’ combines our financial and sustainability reporting and replaces the previous individual reports. Alongside the Report (240 pages), which is targeted to financial and sustainability experts, we also publish the short report ‘BASF In Brief’ (32 pages). BASF In Brief is tailored for a wider target audience and offers a brief overview of the business year and important topics for the future. This targeted reporting concept has enabled us to reduce the print quantities for the larger of the two reports. The comprehensive BASF Report is also available in an interactive online version. In addition, we offer all our reports as PDF downloads.
We take sustainable production processes into consideration in the selection of our paper stock. Our reports are therefore printed on eco-friendly FSC paper. The FSC seal from the Forest Stewardship Council guarantees that the wood – the major raw material used in the production of paper – comes from responsibly managed forestry. To avoid unnecessary transportation, our paper is sourced from a local manufacturer.

We also work with local printers, thus supporting the regional economy and minimizing transportation. Our printing partners implement environmental management systems and publish regular environmental statements. Optimized printing processes enable the certified firms to minimize negative impacts on the environment compared with other printing companies. This is verified through the environmental standard EG 761/2007 as well as EN ISO 14001/2004.
What does this mean?
Our partners have the latest printing technology and machinery. The computer controlled Autoregister system enables the production of highly accurate printing plates and the use of image control technology for exact color reproduction ensures consistent results and significantly reduced ink consumption.
Both Autoregister and the image control technology contribute to the reduction in paper overruns and thus to a reduction in waste. Dampening rollers help reduce the amount of spirit-based solvents used in the printing process.
Transporting our reports also has an impact on the environment. Our goal is to minimize emissions from transport and dispatch through efficient logistics processes. The reports are dispatched in packaging made from recycled paper.
